Dating back to the 17th century, this French charentais-type melon produces intensely fragrant, sweet, delicate orange flesh from compact vines. It’s easy to grow, early maturing and can perform well outdoors in a warm, sunny and sheltered area.

Botanical name: Cucumis melo

For best results start in seed mid-April to early May in a heated propagator. Pot on if necessary, when seedlings have two true leaves. Plant out into rich soil, ideally in a greenhouse or polytunnel late May to early June when all risk of frost has passed.
