A small, crisp exceptionally tasty cucumber with a smooth, glossy green skin. The vigorous plants can be trained upwards or left to trail on the ground. They set fruit readily and produce prolific crops. Pick the fruit when it is no more than 15cm long. We initially trialled this variety in polytunnels, but it may do well outside in mild areas – it certainly flourished outside in mid Wales in the hot summer of 2025.

This was one of the varieties collected by the Seed Detective Adam Alexander on his travels. It was bred in Syria by Future Seeds of Aleppo, an important plant breeding company and seed producer which was destroyed in 2012/13. Wales Seed Hub growers have trialled the variety for several years. Gardeners love it for its ‘real cucumber flavour’ and market gardeners report that it is very popular with veg box customers.

Approx. 15 seeds per pack.

Botanical name: Cucumis sativus

Sow in mid-late spring in pots indoors or in a heated propagator, ideally at a temperature of around 20°C. Keep young plants in the warmth and light until they have 3-4 true leaves, keeping them moist but not over wet. Plant out when daytime temperatures outside/undercover usually reach 12°C with no night frosts. Note that the plants are quick to germinate and grow (much quicker than tomatoes!) so don’t start them too early – it can be ≤ 6 weeks from sowing until they are ready to plant.

Plant out 45-60cm apart in well composted soil. You can let them trail over the ground (maybe mulched with straw or similar to help keep the fruit clean), or train them up a tripod of canes, or let them climb up strings or a trellis (the stems will need twisting round the strings or tying in at first). Keep mature plants well-watered, watering at the base of the plant, not on the leaves. Harvest fruit regularly when no more than 15cm long – if you let them get too big, they will lose their crisp texture so nice and it will stop the plants producing more.
