Sorry, now out of stock for this year! More coming autumn 2026.
Sometimes known as ‘Starflower’, borage is a great, no fuss plant that’s fantastic for pollinators. Bees in particular love the pretty, bright blue flowers, ensuring your plot is positively humming all summer long. Plants can grow up to 80cm high, and will readily self seed, so you won’t have to re-sow it every year – but it’s easy enough to cut off the dying flower heads before the seed forms if you want to stop this happening. The star-shaped flowers are edible, with a fresh, cucumber taste, so try scattering a few over a summer salad to make it beautiful.
Approx. 150 seeds.
Botanical name: Borago officinalis
Borage doesn’t like to be transplanted, so sow outdoors in a well drained bed in mid-spring, adding some fine gravel if your soil is heavy. Sow 5cm apart initially, then thin to at least 30cm, as the plants can get quite big. Remove the faded flower heads before they set seed if you don’t want them to self-seed, which they will do readily.
