A robust dwarf sunflower with stunning, large yellow heads. Quick to bloom and at only 2 feet tall doesn’t need staking. An excellent choice for borders or containers.
Grown by Wales Seed Hub member Chris Vernon.
Approx 30 seeds per pack.
Botanical name: Helianthus Annuus
Seed Story: Everyone loves a good sunflower, especially children and while there’s something almost magical about 8 or 10 foot giants they aren’t the most practical for my windy garden in West Wales. These dwarf sunflowers, called Sunspot, are ideal though! They only grow around 2 feet tall, and their thick robust stems mean they usually don’t need any support and yet they still support gloriously large flowers. Great for cut-flower displays or leave into the autumn to attract birds who love the pick out of abundant seeds. They take up so little space, single plants can be scattered throughout the vegetable garden to add a bit colour.
Seeds can be started indoors 3 to 4 weeks before last spring frost or sown direct outside after all danger of frost has passed. Sow at a depth of 1/4 inch. Transplant seedlings to individual pots when 2-3inches tall and protect from snails & slugs whilst young! Harden off before planting out after all danger of frost has passed.
