Valdor is possibly the best winter lettuce forming a lovely butterhead lettuce of excellent taste and texture. It overwinters well in an unheated greenhouse and can also be sown outdoors in September to pick individual leaves. This variety has lovely soft leaves with good colour and taste – it is definitely my favourite winter lettuce.
Sow in September direct outdoors or in a seed tray for undercover use. These seedlings then need to be pricked out into modules for planting in an unheated greenhouse bed in October.
